Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: 1 January 2026
Bylock exists to make private, everyday communication simple and secure. We built it for lawful use by ordinary people. This Acceptable Use Policy describes what you may not do with Bylock. It applies to everyone who uses the app.
1. Lawful use only
You must comply with all applicable laws. You may not use Bylock to plan, carry out, promote, or facilitate any unlawful activity.
2. Prohibited activities
You may not use Bylock to:
- Engage in, promote, or coordinate terrorism, violent extremism, or violence against any person or group.
- Create, share, or solicit child sexual abuse material or any content that sexually exploits or endangers minors.
- Harass, threaten, stalk, defame, or incite harm against others.
- Distribute malware, conduct phishing, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to systems or accounts.
- Send spam, run scams, or commit fraud.
- Infringe intellectual-property rights or share content you have no right to share.
- Trade in illegal goods or services, or launder proceeds of crime.
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or compromise the service or other users.
3. Privacy and encryption
Bylock is end-to-end encrypted, which means we cannot read message content and therefore cannot proactively monitor conversations. Responsible, lawful use depends on you. This design protects ordinary users' privacy; it is not an invitation to misuse the service.
4. Enforcement
Operators of a Bylock server may suspend or remove accounts on their instance that violate this policy, where they become aware of such violations (for example through a user report). Because of encryption, enforcement generally depends on reports rather than content scanning.
5. Reporting abuse
If you become aware of misuse, contact the operator of the relevant server, or email abuse@example.com (replace with your real contact address before launch).
6. Changes
We may update this policy over time. The date above reflects the latest version.
