Terms of Service
Last updated: 1 January 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Bylock application and website ("Bylock", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using Bylock, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Bylock.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country if higher, and legally able to enter into these Terms. You agree to use Bylock only for lawful purposes.
2. Your account
You are responsible for your account and for keeping your password safe. Because of end-to-end encryption, your password cannot be reset or recovered â if you lose it, your encrypted messages cannot be restored. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account.
3. Acceptable use
You agree to follow our Acceptable Use Policy. In short, you may not use Bylock for any illegal activity or to harm others. Bylock cannot read message content, so responsible use is essential.
4. Your content
You retain all rights to the content you send. Because content is end-to-end encrypted, we do not access, monitor, or moderate it, and we are not responsible for it. You are solely responsible for what you send and for ensuring you have the right to send it.
5. Open source & self-hosting
Bylock is open source. You may run your own server subject to the software's license. If you connect to a server operated by someone else, that operator's terms also apply, and they are responsible for their instance.
6. Service "as is"
Bylock is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, availability, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bylock and its contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of or inability to use the service.
8. Independence & no affiliation
Bylock is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any government, state institution, political movement, or organization, and it is unrelated to any other application that may have used a similar name in the past. Any such resemblance is coincidental.
9. Termination
You may stop using Bylock and request deletion of your account at any time. An operator may suspend or remove accounts on their server that violate these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [your jurisdiction], without regard to conflict-of-law rules. (Specify before launch.)
11. Changes
We may update these Terms. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms. The date above reflects the latest version.
12. Contact
Questions about these Terms: legal@example.com (replace with your real contact address before launch).
